Today there are 8 shelters on Mount Olympus operating to serve the needs of visitors, hikers and climbers.

Located in significant locations along the main routes towards the mountain top of Olympus are 6 additional emergency refuges.

“Spilios Agapitos” Refuge

Located in an altitude of 2040 meters above sea level on the “Balcony” location of Mount Olympus, the refuge has the capacity to house 110 people and includes a restaurant.

“Giosos Apostolidis” Refuge

The highest Greek refuge located 2700 above sea level next to the mountain top “Profitis Elias”. The refuge can house 90 people and includes one restaurant.

“Christos Kakkalos” Refuge

Located 2640 meters above sea level, on the edge of the Plateau of Muses, the refuge can host 17 people and includes an equipped kitchen.

“Koromilia” Refuge in Dion

The “Koromilia” refuge, located 1013 meters above sea level on the north side of Mount Olympus, can host 18 people and includes a restaurant. You can access this refuge through a forest road (dirtroad) as well as from Agios Konstantinos in Dion.

“Krevatia” Refuge in Vrontou

The “Krevatia” Refuge is located 1005 meters above sea level on the north side of Mount Olympus. It can host 20 people and includes a restaurant. You can access this refuge through a forest road (dirt road) from Ayia Triada in Vrontou.

“Dimitrios Bountolas” or “Stavros” Refuge

Located 930 meters above sea level on the location “Stavros”, the refuge can host 30 people and includes a restaurant. You can access this refuge through a forest road (accessible asphalt road) from the village of Litochoro or through the provincial road Litochoro – Dion.

“Vrisopoules” Refuge (Center for Mountain Ski Race Training)

Located 1805m above sea level, on the south side of Mount Olympus over the “Mavratza” gorge. It can host 30 people and includes a restaurant. To enter the facilities, visitors must display their official ID. Since the area belongs to the army (Center for Mountain Ski Race Training), special permission is required from the Special Forces Directorate.

Emergency Refuge

 

Emergency refuges are small constructions that can be used for emergency situations. They only offer housing in case of severe weather conditions and the number of people they can host is indicative.
