The Holy Church of Saint Demetrius, a byzantine art and culture monument with thousands of heirlooms, is located at the entrance of Kolindros.
The Church is a three-aisled basilica with a wooden roof, without a narthex, built on the 18th century. By King’s decree, Saint Demetrius is celebrated as the patron saint of Kolindros.
The Church was last renovated, according to a ukase (proclamation) by the Sultan in 1815, from the Bishop of Kitros, Saint Meletios the Martyr, slaughtered by the Turks in 1821 in Thessaloniki. The Church is decorated with the tall, winged altarpiece with portable icons.
The Church courtyard made of stone was built of rocks from the old byzantine castle existing in Kolindros and inside the church lies the only cemetery existing in Kolidros.
