Morna or Skotina (dark) is a village in the municipality of Pieria, built 700m. above sea level in a gorge in the Pierian mountains, on rocky ground. The village was founded during the Ottoman empire rule.
The location and the rich vegetation kept the village away from sunlight for many hours every day. The sun was rising late and the dark came early which made the residents come up with dark stories about the area.
At the end of the ‘60s, the residents moved to the new village and named it Fotina (light).
There lies the ancient marble quarry with a wonderful forest road and many climbing paths towards the Pierian mountaintops.
It is 32km. away from Katerini driving through the old national highway of Katerini Elassona (junction of Fotina).
