A historic settlement in the Pierian mountains at an altitude of 600m. above sea level amidst a rich forest of pine trees, fir trees and beech trees.

Ano Milia welcomed its first residents on the 17th century. After the battle of Milia (April 2nd, 1822) it was destroyed by the Turks. It was rebuilt and acted as a vacation area up to December 12th, 1943, when it was set on fire by the German occupation forces.

Today new homes are being built and above the village, at an altitude of 1050m. above sea level is the Shelter of the Mountaineering Club of Katerini with a capacity to host 62 people.

In the village, the visitor can admire remains from the famous Tower of Lazeoi, the famous family of insurgents on Mount Olympus. You can also visit the church of Saint Paraskevi with the wonderful bell tower, the remains of the cemetery church of Saint Athanasios and the location with the “Iron Cross”, put in the fork of a pine tree, according to tradition, by Cosmas of Aetolia, saved to date. The pine tree is still maintained today exactly like in the past, with no signs of growing or drying.

The area is ideal for climbing (the European climbing path E4 crosses this area) up to the Pierian mountain tops. It’s also ideal for hiking and rides on vehicles.

It is 25km. away from Katerini and can be easily accessed by taking the national highway of Katerini-Elassona (Kato Milia junction), after the settlement of Messea Milia.
