Established in 1542 AD by Saint Dionysius, the Old Monastery is located 900m above the valley floor by the Enipeas Gorge, 17km away from Litochoro.

For centuries, it had contributed on a spiritual, national and social level.

It is considered a unique monument of fine architecture and aesthetic, built from rock and wood. It was destroyed in 1943 and part of it was later restored.

Inside the already renovated Catholicon (main church) of the Monastery, visitors can visit the tomb of Saint Dionysius.

Half an hour east of the Monastery, inside a cave next to the Enipeas Gorge, visitors can visit the Agiasma (Holy) of Saint Dionysius.
