On the north side of Olympus Mountain, 430m away from the settlement of Petra, the byzantine Monastery of Holy Mary is considered one of the major religious and historic monuments in Greece. It was established in the 12^thcentury. The catholicon (main church) is dedicated to the Presentation of Mary and the existing temple dates to the 18^th century.
