The Byzantine Temple of Holy Mary is the oldest Byzantine monument in Pieria.
It is a temple of rare architecture with a dome and an ambulatory and simple decoration dating back to the beginning of the 11th century.
The simple, yet stunning decoration, includes rare icons of the God Almighty, depicted on the dome and the Assumption of Mary over a triple-arched opening, a technique dating back to the 5th or 6th century.
What is also unique is the exclusive use of construction material found in the wider Dion area.
The Church’s courtyard houses the Olympus Festival where byzantine and religious music events take place followed by a permit given by the 9th Ephorate of byzantine Antiquities.
