The Holy Church of the Assumption of Mary located in Ano or Palaia Skotina was built in 1862 with the contribution of Kallinikos, the Patriarch of Alexandria, a native of Skotina.

He built the Church from the beginning, on the foundations of a previous existing church. The Church is a three-aisled Basilica with a matroneum.
