Litochoro, the main city of the municipality of Dion – Olympos, despite its location at the foot of Mount Olympus, has a rich maritime tradition as its residents were then largely engaged in the maritime industry.

The rich maritime history and heritage is displayed through the exhibits and the paintings found in the Maritime Museum of Litochoro, which is housed in a building by the Municipality, on Saint Nikolaos Street, the main street of Litochoro.

A large part of the items, a permanent collection at the museum, is donated by local maritime families. They are displayed in relation to the historical, geographical, financial, social and cultural conditions of the time they are dated to.

The Museum also houses the art gallery with paintings displaying craft from Litochoro.
